What is Pilonidal Sinus?

It is an infected tract under the skin, usually between the buttocks, in the natal cleft,containing a tuft of hair and which spontaneously drains through the openings.

Risk factor

  • Obesity (deep gluteal fold)
  • Family history

  • Wearing tight jeans (local irritation)
  • Age15-30 years (sex hormone induce glandular change in the hair follicles) (M:F-3:1)

Sign and symptom

  • Discharge of pus
  • History of recurrent abscesses
  • Can be asymptomatic
